Texas Tennis Open Underway In Grapevine

The Texas Tennis Open, a WTA International level event, is underway at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine.
After rain forced the postponement of qualifying rounds on Saturday, fans were treated to a full day of action on Sunday. The final qualifying rounds were completed along with the first rounds of both singles and doubles events.
Highlighting the action was 4th seed Yanina Wickmeyer who ousted British star Heather Watson in straight sets. Also winning were No. 7 Chanelle Scheepers and No. 8 Sorana Cirstea.
Unseeded players Aleksandra Wosniak, Polona Hercog, Alize Cornet, and Arantxa Rus all moved on to the 2nd round. Wildcard Bojana Jovanovski also made it through to the next round.
Monday’s matches feature top seed Angelique Kerber, ranked No. 6 in the world, facing Mirjana Lucic as well as 2nd seed Jelena Jankovic taking on Yaroslava Shvedova .
