Wild Defeats Orange County
The Texas Wild moved into a tie for second place in the western conference of the Mylan World Team Tennis league with a hard-fought win over the Orange County Breakers.
The Wild’s mixed doubles team of Darija Jurak and Mike Bryan got the team off to a good start with a 5-2 win over the Breakers’ Liga Dekmeijere and Treat Huey.
Orange County closed the gap when the women’s doubles team of Dekmeijere/Maria Elena Camerin defeated the Wilds Jurak/Eugenie Bouchard 5-3.
The Breakers took the lead when Steve Johnson overpowered Alex Bogomolov Jr 5-2.
Texas regained the overall lead when Eugenie Bouchard defeated Maria Elena Camerin and substitute Dekmeijere 5-0.
Orange County sent the match into overtime when Huey/Johnson upset Bob and Mike Bryan in the men’s doubles set 5-4. The Bryan Brothers stopped the Breakers in the second game of the overtime period to preserve the victory.
The Wild travels to Philadelphia to take on the Freedoms on Monday before hosting their final home game of the season on Wednesday.
