A rainy day did not stop the crowd from coming out to see the hometown Texas Wild face the Sacramento Capitals in a Mylan World Team Tennis matchup on Sunday night. The matches were moved inside the Las Colinas Four Seasons Resort in Irving.

The opening set was mixed doubles featuring the team of Megan Moultan-Levy and Mark Knowles of Sacramento against the Texas team of Aisam Qureshi and Darija Jurak. The set was even through 3-3 when Jurak’s serve was broken by a couple of down-the-line volleys placed by Sacramento. The Capitals take the set and the early lead 5-3.

The next set featured women’s doubles with Moultan-Levy teaming with Irina Falconi to face the Wild’s Jurak and Eugenie Bouchard. Texas struck first, as Bouchard’s ground game proved too much for Moultan-Levy’s service game. Unfortunately, the Capitals broke Bouchard right back and evened the set at 1-1. After a pair of holds, Texas breaks Moultan-Levy again and then holds on to win the set 5-3.

The Texas men’s doubles team of Qureshi and Alex Bogomolov Jr. then took on the Capitals team of Knowles and Ryan Sweeting. The Wild took the set 5-2 after breaking Sweeting’s serve.

With an overall lead of 13-10, Texas came alive for the singles matches. In women’s singles, Bouchard trounced Falconi 5-0, followed by Bogomolov shutting out Sweeting 5-0.

With the 23-10 victory, the Wild moves into a tie for first place in the Western Conference with the Springfield Lasers. The teams face off Monday night in Springfield.
