Wozniacki clinches year-end top WTA ranking

DOHA, QATAR – Caroline Wozniacki will conclude the 2010 season as the top ranked singles player in the world for the first time in her career after ascending to the pinnacle on October 11, 2010.
“2010 has been the most amazing year in my career during which I realized my dream of becoming World No.1,” said Wozniacki. “Capturing the year-end World No.1 ranking is a huge accomplishment for me and I am thrilled that all the hard work has paid off.”

Only the 10th player to end the season as the World No.1 since the WTA ranking system was introduced in 1975, Wozniacki is the first player from Denmark to reach the top ranking. Wozniacki had a career season, capturing a tour-leading six titles including the China Open (Beijing), the Toray Pan Pacific Open (Tokyo), and the Rogers Cup (Montreal). Boks Sony Ericsson Open, an inaugural WTA event in Wozniacki’s hometown of Copenhagen, and the Pilot Pen Tennis at Yale (New Haven). Since Wimbledon 2010, Wozniacki has amassed a 31-3 record in seven tournaments played, winning 25 of her last 27 matches.
Wozniacki’s strong performance during the summer events resulted in her capturing the coveted US Open Series title.Wozniacki is the winner of 12 career singles titles.
Only three players younger than Wozniacki have finished the year ranked World No.1: Martina Hingis, Monica Seles and Steffi Graf.
