Dustin Johnson Dominates The Northern Trust
|Dustin Johnson reclaimed the No. 1 ranking with an 11 stroke victory in the Northern Trust, the first event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He finished 30-under following weekend that saw him with multiple rounds that had him on 59 watch en route to earning $1.71 million.
“Jumped up the leaderboard, obviously I feel good about my position,” Johnson said. “The game is very good right now. I played really solid all four days this week, and got two more big tournaments coming up. Next week is the BMW and then obviously the TOUR Championship at East Lake.”

Johnson became the third player in PGA TOUR history to finish at 30-under or better, joining Ernie Els and Jordan Spieth, who both hit the mark at Kapalua.
“It is a big margin, and I’m definitely really proud of that. I played really good. My goal today was, I knew I was playing well and I knew the guys were going to shoot low,” Johnson said. “But yeah, so I was trying to get 30-under, which held a nice little putt on the last hole to get to 30. I’ve never shot 30-under in four rounds. Just something that I wanted to do.”
The 11 shot win is the largest margin of victory on the PGA TOUR this season, topping Joaquin Neimann;s six shot win at A Military at the Greenbrier. The win is also the largest margin on the PGA TOUR since Phil Mickelson won the 2006 Bell South Classic by 13 shots over Zach Johnson and Jose Maria Olazabal.
Harris English finished second at 19-under, earning 900 FedEx Cup points in the process.
:Really happy with, really, all aspects of my game. I played really well,” English said. “Years past, TPC Boston has not been a great track for me but I felt like I was coming in with really good form and I played really well. Just Dustin played unbelievable golf. It was solid ball-striking, putting, everything. Shooting 30-under on a Playoff golf course like this is pretty incredible, and well deserved.”
Charles Schwab Challenge champion Daniel Berger finished third at 18-under.
2017 Colonial champion Kevin Kisner tied with Scottie Scheffler for fourth.
Tiger Woods, playing with Rory McIlroy for the second consecutive day, shot his best PGA TOUR round of 2020 with a 66.
“I felt like I hit the ball better. I putted better. Everything was just cleaner and better today. It was good,” Woods said. “Just wish I would have kept the round going a little bit more. I had a couple nice little eagle looks on the front nine. It could have been — well, it could have been one of those really low rounds, but I’ll take 5-under.”
Notables who missed the top 70 to advance to next week’s BMW Championship include Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Ian Poulter and Phil Mickelson. Mickelson announced he will be making his PGA TOUR Champions debut next week when he missed the cut at the Northern Trust.
