CBS Sports’ return to live PGA TOUR golf scored with viewers as Sunday’s coverage of the Charles Schwab Challenge was the tournament’s most-watched final round in 16 years.

In addition to being the first PGA TOUR action since March 12 when the Players Championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge had the best field in Colonial history (since the rankings began in 1986).

The field included the top five players in the world, including the Colonial debuts of Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.

The final round averaged 3.091 million viewers, an increase of +50% from last year.

The national average household rating/share also was up +50% with a 2.1/6.

The audience for the final round peaked at 3.88 million viewers and a 2.6/7 household rating/share from 5:45-6:00 PM, ET.

Dallas-Fort Worth area numbers drastically improved as Saturday’s ratings jumped from a 1.5 in 2019 to a 3.7 while Sunday’s skyrocketed from 1.8 a year ago up to 5.6 in 2020. The numbers translate into roughly 100,000 more households in the DFW area tuning into the Colonial in 2020 compared to 2019.

Saturday’s third round coverage was also a big hit as it was +50% over last year’s third round action at Colonial and was the most viewed third round in 15 years.
