Scheffler Cruises to 20th PGA Tour Win at The American Express

Scottie Scheffler fired a closing 6-under 66 to win The American Express by four shots and collect his 20th PGA Tour title at PGA West’s Stadium Course in La Quinta, California.

Scheffler finished at 27-under par, separating from the strongest American Express field in decades with a back-nine coronation more than a back-nine battle.

He shook off an early bogey at the second, then made birdie on half his holes, including a stretch of four birdies in six holes on the front to blow past 18-year-old Blades Brown and 54-hole leader Si Woo Kim.

By the time he reached the iconic island-green 17th, known as “Alcatraz,” he led by enough that a tee shot in the water and ensuing double bogey merely trimmed the final margin instead of creating drama.

Milestone 20th win

The victory is Scheffler’s 20th PGA Tour title, all amassed in just a four-year span, a burst of dominance that now earns him lifetime membership on tour.

He becomes just the third player in history, alongside Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, to reach at least 20 PGA Tour wins and four majors before turning 30, underscoring how quickly he has stacked up historical benchmarks.

Scheffler captured $1.65 million for the win, moving him past $100 million in career earnings, with nine of those 20 wins coming by four shots or more, a reflection of how often he turns contention into a runaway.

What it means for 2026

This was Scheffler’s first start of the 2026 PGA Tour season, and it looked like a continuation rather than a reset, with his putting remaining a strength and his ball‑striking as sharp as ever.

The win in Palm Springs sets up a familiar West Coast swing narrative as he heads toward events like the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where it is assumed is next start will be and where his current run of dominance first truly ignited four years ago.

Early returns suggest that if this is Scheffler with supposed “offseason rust,” the rest of 2026 could be an even more imposing chapter in an already historic prime.
