Southlake Carroll Defeats Saginaw

The District 7-5A first place team Southlake Carroll had no trouble defeating Saginaw on Friday night at Southlake’s Dragon Stadium. Even without the talented arm of starting quarterback Kenny Hill, Carroll had 31 unanswered points in the first half and 290 yards of total offense for the game.

With only one first down in the first half, it was difficult for Saginaw to keep the Carroll offense off the field. As a result, Southlake sophomore Quarterback Drew Ahmuty completed 11 of 13 passes in the first half. His favorite target was receiver Sabian Holmes who had seven receptions and 71 receiving yards in the first two quarters. At halftime, Southlake was leading 31-0.

Southlake pulled many of their starters for the second half. In the closing minutes of the third quarter, Saginaw was able to put seven points on the board after a Drew Ahmuty pass was intercepted on the Saginaw 45 and ran back to the SLC 8 yard line. Two plays later, Saginaw quarterback Kyle Webb completed a 7 yard TD pass to Eddie Nuno. At the end of the third quarter the score was Southlake 38 and Saginaw 7.

Saginaw was able to mount it’s longest drive of the game in the fourth quarter. Starting on their own 12 yard-line they held the ball for over seven minutes and 17 plays to score a TD on a two yard run by Saginaw’s Jacob Ramirez. Southlake kept the ball on the ground for the remaining few minutes of the game to secure the 45 to 14 win.

The final game of the regular season is next week as Southlake (9-0) takes on Denton Guyer (7-2) for the 7-5A district championship. It should be one of the best match-ups of the season as Southlake, ranked number six in the state, tries to go into the playoffs undefeated.
