Mavericks Lose To Clippers

The Mavericks stayed on the heels of one of the NBA’s best teams until the very end when Chris Paul led the Los Angeles Clippers to a 99-93 win. Dallas is now 5-16 when playing on the road.

Dallas had a tough time with Los Angeles starting the game in a 10-4 deficit that the Mavericks would eventually bring back within two points before the half. The Clippers pulled away in the fourth quarter through the combination of Chris Paul’s 19 points and 16 assists, something that Maverick’s coach Rick Carlisle believes game the Clippers a great chance to win.

“[Paul’s] a great player but we’ve got to do more things to help ourselves win,” said Carlisle, “I’m not going to say one guy beat us. They had some fortunate things happen.”

This is Dallas’s fourth consecutive loss and they have only won one game in the month of January. With a record of 13-23, the Dallas Mavericks have their worst record since 2000.

“This is painful right now, to be losing like this when we were so close,” Mavericks forward Shawn Marion said. “It seems like when we get right there, we’re going to do something to mess it up. We played a solid game, but it just seemed like the little things kept adding up and it killed us.”

The Mavericks managed to keep this game close and started off the second half with a nine point lead before the Clippers brought the game back and eventually won the game. Darren Collison led the Mavericks in the game, scoring 22 points and 6 assists as his speed helped him race through the Clipper’s defense. OJ Mayo contributed with 17 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 15.

Dallas will take on the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. Tip-off is at 9:00 p.m.
