Mavs Open At Home With Rout

The Dallas Mavericks opened the home portion of their schedule Thursday night with a 120-102 blowout of the Utah Jazz.

Seven players scored in double figures for Dallas in the win: Dirk Nowitzki (21), Chandler Parsons (21), Al-Farouq Aminu (16), Monta Ellis (14), Brandan Wright (14), Tyson Chandler (13) and Devin Harris (12).

Mavs forward Dirk Nowitzki went 9-of-13 from the field (2-of-4 from deep) and scored a game-high-tying 21 points against the Jazz on Thursday. He is averaging 19.5 points on 66.7 percent (16-of-24) shooting through the first two regular-season games.

Forward Al-Farouq Aminu posted his first double-double of the season (18th career) with 16 points (6-7 FGs, 1-1 3FGs, 3-4 FTs) and a team-high 10 rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Aminu, who was the only Maverick to record a double-double in the preseason, also recorded the first double-double by a Maverick in the regular season.

Chandler Parsons went 3-of-4 from the field (4-of-4 from the line) in the second half and scored 10 of his game-high-tying 21 points after intermission.

Mavericks guard Monta Ellis appeared in his 600th career game and had

14 points, three rebounds and a team-high six assists in 29 minutes. He has now handed out (a team-high) six assists in each of the first two games.

Guard J.J. Barea, who was signed by Dallas on Wednesday, made his season debut against the Jazz on Thursday and had four points, four rebounds and three assists in 19 minutes off the bench.

The Mavericks outshot the Jazz 55.3 percent (47-of-85) to 43.4 percent (36-of-83) from the field on the night. Dallas outscored Utah 52-28 in the paint. The Mavericks also committed only nine turners, while the Jazz recorded 16 giveaways (for 23 points).

All five starters scored in double figures for Utah in the loss: Derrick Favors (17), Gordon Hayward (16), Trey Burke (16), Alec Burks (15) and Enes Kanter (11). Favors added a game-high 11 rebounds in 35 minutes.

With the win, the Mavericks improved to 22-13 (.629) all-time in home openers (first home game of the season). Dallas has now won three straight and four of its last five home openers. Tonight marked the seventh time in franchise history that Dallas played its first home game of the year against Utah. The Mavericks improved to 4-3 all-time in home openers against the Jazz.

The Mavericks’ next game is at New Orleans on Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m.
